About Eric Wylie

After many years observing his father, veteran Iowa broadcaster George Wylie, at KCCI-TV, WOI-TV and KEZT and WOI radio in Des Moines, Iowa, Eric had the opportunity to ask his father and father's colleagues pesky questions -- sometimes those folks even let him take the controls! That must have been when the audio/video bug bit. Eric took that knowledge and excitement back to his school media projects at Hoyt Jr. High School in Des Moines, and Welch Jr. High and Ames High School in Ames, Iowa. Yes, he was the school Audio-Visual nerd, but one with goals and ambition -- and it's since paid off.

Eric earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa in 1993. While at Morningside, he held several positions at the campus radio and television stations, including general manager of the television operation as well as "faculty advisor" (while a senior) to the nightly TV newscast (our team produced a 15 minute live to tape news, weather and sports program four nights a week). Eric was a student of department chairman, author, and legendary former California "Boss Radio" D.J., Dave Diamond. Outside clients to the college's television operation made use of Eric's talents as a voice-over announcer and on-camera talent. While at Morningside, Eric was known as "The Voice of the Morningside College Marching Chiefs," announcing for the college marching band during football half-time performances. Eric's strong interest and abilities in music led him to pursue a vocal music minor, training for four years with voice instructor Mark Schnaible, now a much-sought international opera and oratorio performer. Eric was deeply involved in the college music program, performing solos in numerous concerts, festivals, and competitions -- several times bringing home top honors and awards.

Eric started his communications career as a hands-on producer in radio and television, but his career track led him away from the daily fun, creative production work and into the world of corporate communications management. Missing the production work is what drove him to originally create Eric Wylie Productions back in late 2001 while still working full-time at MCI (see Work Experience). Back then, Eric Wylie Productions was focused on voiceovers and audio production. Since leaving MCI in the summer of 2004, Eric devoted his full effort toward his business, expanding services to include a variety of business communications offerings. Eric says making the business a full-time endeavor has been one of his biggest challenges, but also one of his biggest joys.

Today, Eric actively participate as a member of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church, where he shares his talents as a vocal soloist, is a reader for special events and a writer/designer for special church publications and is a past chairperson of Music and Fine Arts committee.

Eric is also Lovely Lane's Director of Media and Technology, single-handedly producing/directing a multi-camera livestream feed and in-room A/V support each Sunday.

In 2004, Eric produced a series of five video presentations for Lovely Lane's annual financial stewardship campaign that helped increase giving in the church by 14% percent. In April of 2005, the church embarked on a Miracle Sunday campaign to raise $50,000 in a single Sunday. Eric created and coordinated the communications plan and wrote, created and edited the letters, posters and other materials sent to members of the congregation. While he certainly did not do it all alone, Eric took on a leadership role to see the project through. The end result was a miraculous offering of just over $67,000! Learn more about Lovely Lane United Methodist Church.

Eric has been a volunteer as a speaker to area 7th grade career-exploring students through Kirkwood Community College's, "Workplace Learning Connection" program. Eric speaks about Communications careers in Web design, audio/video production and voiceover, and underscores the need for a well-rounded education.

From 2008 to 2014, Eric served on the board of the Cedar Rapids Public Relations Associates and coordinated the organization's email and web communications.

Eric is married and has two adult children.
